Opportunities in Swale...
The majority of Winter Sports require cold enough weather for ice and snow to be provided naturally, however a few purpose built facilities can accommodate activities in warmer climates.
Remember to contact the club/organisation before you attend to ask any questions you have on their activities.
Background to Winter Sports...
It is true that those areas of the world with colder climates and a landscape with mountains are more suited for winter activities but some indoor facilities provide opportunities for individuals to particpate and compete.
Most winter activities can be traced back to a human need to transport, traverse or even just to play and have fun in the snow and on ice. The first Winter Olympics were held in 1924 and since then competition along with the Winter Paralympics have included numerous activities including -
- Alpine Skiing
- Cross Country Skiing
- Figure Skating
- Freestyle Skiing
- Ice Hockey
- Nordic Combined
- Short Track Speed Skating
- Ski Jumping
- Speed Skating
All activities offered by clubs overseen by a National Governing Body will be required to adhere to new procedures to protect participants. The known and listed Governing Bodied above are working with Sport England to support providers to get back to activities.
