Faversham Unlisted - Thoughtful Shopping

Time to take another look as Mother's Day approaches at Faversham Unlisted

Independent traders in the historic Kent market town of Faversham joined forces before Christmas to take on the online Goliaths by making it easier for shoppers to buy local goods and services.

Over 26 small businesses have already signed up to ‘Faversham Unlisted’, an online market place for “thoughtful shopping”.

The website is run by four local residents who wanted to pool their experiences in IT, Finance, Communications and Digital Marketing to help bring shops together as one collective force, expand the customer base and give them a fighting chance against the big online sellers.

Co-founder of Faversham Unlisted, Lucy Guthrie said: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the support we’ve had from local sellers. They know that individually they may be small but together they are mighty.“

Faversham is a destination for people who want to buy items of quality, innovation, or uniqueness. Making this into an online opportunity just made sense to us. It offers shoppers a unique way of buying local goods while at the same time expanding into the broader market.

“This is vital at a time when people’s retail habits are moving online and the current climate is restricting everyone’s ability to explore the shops, market stalls, craft fairs we all love.”

With a 'curated' rather than 'listed' design, each item for sale on the website has been hand-picked to showcase Faversham as a unique shopping experience, whilst offering discerning shoppers the online ease of finding those extra special purchases the town has to offer.

Carla Van der Meer, who runs Poppekins, which specialises in colourful homewares and custom prints, is one of the traders using the new platform. She said: “I jumped at the chance to be involved. For me it was a no brainer. Not only do I get to be part of a real community with fellow local business owners but I’m giving my brand a chance to reach a wider audience with increased marketing and advertising. It means I can focus my time on designing and developing new products!”

To help shoppers with their purchases, all traders are offering a click and collect service or free delivery within the ME13 area. Elvis & Kresse, Barkers of Faversham, Creekside Vinyl, Barley Mow, Apotheca and Granville Antiques are just some of the Faversham-based traders who have joined the website so far. There are also gift experiences from the likes of Joe’s Bows Country Sports and Mount Ephraim Gardens as well as personal fitness sessions and beauty therapy and holistic treatments.

And not forgetting the pubs and local breweries, who have been one of the hardest hit as a result of the pandemic. The Elephant Pub and Hopdaemon Brewery have joined forces and are offering beer on delivery through the site.

Let’s celebrate all that is local, wonderful and on our doorstep!
