Like those early travellers found in the Canterbury Tales, there is a wealth of rich stories to uncover in Swale. From small community events to seasonal festivals, there’s a story to be told every week across the towns of Faversham, the Isle of Sheppey, Sittingbourne and surrounding villages.
Get out and about on the unrivalled marshes on the Isle of Sheppey for instance, or join in on the huge range of outdoor events which include guided walks, fairs and music festivals. Catch a show in Sheerness’ The Criterion Music Hall, the Avenue Theatre in Sittingbourne or The Arden Theatre in Faversham. Enjoy the colour and flamboyance of a carnival parade or spark your curiosity with one of the many lectures, art exhibitions or live performances.
Loyal foodies will love the range of food and drink events that are forever taking place at venues like Macknades Fine Foods and Shepherd Neame's Old Brewery Store, ensuring there’s always something good to eat and new tastes to explore. There’s also a host of seasonal events to celebrate the biggest holidays of the year, such as Guy Fawkes Night, Christmas, New Year, Easter and Valentine’s Day. With so much going on during these periods, these are the ideal times to treat a loved one to a welcome break away.
Note: The Kent County Show will take place on Friday 10th - Sunday 12th July 2020, many Swale residents and visitors are attracted to the showground which is just a few miles outside the Swale boundary on the A249 towards Maidstone. Another highlight at the County Showground includes the 'Heritage Transport Show' on Saturday 4 April 2020 which features an array of vintage vehicles, farmers market, trade stands, autojumble and the South East Bus Festival.
