Background to Uniformed Groups...
Over many generations organisations have developed activity and development programmes to help young people experience a wide range of opportunities. Using structure and uniforms to help give the participants identity and progression, usually recognising achievement through badges, certificates or accreditation.
There are many variations of Uniformed Groups and below is a brief introduction to the ones that are providing opportunities in Swale -
Established in 1909 the organisation has developed over the years to include opportunities for female members across the ages of 5 up to 30. Activities, challenges, badges and events are all designed to inspire members to develop themselves locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.
Military Cadet Organisations
There are a number of Military based youth groups that have been established to provide experiences, training and personal development for young people with an interest in that specific area of operation, in swale we are blessed with the following known organisations -
Air Training Corps
Army Cadet Force
Combined Cadet Force
The first Scout camp was held in 1907 and since then the organisation has grown across the globe providing opportunities for males and females between the ages of 4 and 25. The structured activities and programmes help participants develop personally and experience opportunities locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.
Since the first club started in 1920 the organisation has seen and faced many challenges but continues to provide opportunities for young people between 10 and 28. Focusing on issues, training, competitions and skills the programmes provide pathways into related agricultural industries and careers.
