Rowing

Opportunities in Swale...

There are a number of clubs and organisations providing opportunities in Swale -

Remember to contact the club/organisation before you attend to ask any questions you have on their activities.

Background to Rowing...

Once again this is an activity that can trace its origins back thousands of years as it has been a form of transporting across bodies of water, using a form or paddle or oar to propelle a boat. It wasn't until the 17th or 18th centuries that the activity started to be organised with competitions and clubs being formed.

The activity is strength and endurance based with particpants being able to take part and compete in numerous versions depending on the size of the boat being used. Clubs and organisations will generally look to provide the boats to help individuals get involved and those wanting to compete at a higher level being able to purchase their own boat.

Clubs will organise local events as well as regular training with regional, national and international events and competitions available to compete and spectate, with rowing being a major element of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

COVID-19

All activities offered by clubs overseen by a National Governing Body will be required to adhere to new procedures to protect participants. British Rowing is working with Sport England to support providers to get back to activities.
